A method is proposed and tested which makes it possible to determine completely the photospheric velocity field in active regions from measurements of the component along the line of sight through integration of the incompressibility condition. Its validity is first tested on a simple vortex, then applied to real data. As expected, vortexlike structures are well restored, whereas Evershed flows are not. The reasons for that are analyzed, and improvements are suggested.
