We present, for the first time, the radii of six long period cepheids in the Large Magellanic Cloud. The calculations were based on 306 radial-velocity measurements made with the Coravel photoelectric scanner and on previous UBV photometry. In this paper we give a method of determination of the radii based on the Baade-Wesselink concept and using mathematical smoothing for the V, B - V and velocity curves. The method provides very good determinations for the radii. Considerations about the 10 log Te + BC versus (B- V)0 relation lead us to adopt 18.4l ± 0.1 for the distance modulus of the Large Magellanic Cloud.
