The atmospheric abundances of H2O, CO and N2O have been determined simultaneously by analyzing solar spectra. The method requires the individual line parameters, models for the variations of pressure, temperature, and the mixing ratios of the absorbing gases with height, in addition to the observed spectrum. Application of the nonlinear least squares program to analysis of the 2150-2200/cm region of a ground level spectrum yielded mixing ratios of 0.27 ppm for N2O, 0.11 ppm for CO, and a surface relative humidity of 32.5% in addition to the shape and position of the background curve.
