A modified version of the method of oscillator-strength determination is presented which can be useful for various elements from the iron group and which was tested with V III as an example. An attempt is made to describe experiments in which spectra of V II and V III were produced simultaneously in a wall-stabilized cascade arc containing a mixture of VOCl3 and helium. Attention is given to the plasma source, line intensity measurements, diagnostic problems, and determinations of gf values. The gf values obtained for 30 lines of V III are compared with various theoretical values. Measurement errors are evaluated.
