The Indian cosmic ray experiment in Space Shuttle Spacelab-3 has been designed to measure the ion states as well as mass and charge spectra of anomalous component of cosmic rays reported on recently. In this experiment, use is made of thin big sheets of CR-39 (DOP) of special grade, as it is a sensitive plastic detector and can provide unique charge resolution. Laser light has been used to cut brittle CR-39 (DOP) sheets for preparing stacks for this experiment. Here, the technique and also a study of the effect of laser cutting on track properties of CR-39 (DOP).
