We report the presence of supernova remnants (SNRs) in the radio hotspots embedded in the diffuse emission lobes of about five active galactic nuclei (AGNs), selected from the data of Neff, S.G. et al. (1995). Symmetry analyses of optical counterparts of these sources were used to discriminate between SNRs and possible H II regions. The detections of these SNRs at the lobes of AGNs have far-reaching implications on the nature and morphologies of lobe-dominated extragalactic radio sources. We have used the presence of SNRs at the hotspots (and possibly along the jets) of AGNs to model an acceleration mechanism beyond the accretion disks of AGNs and we have attempted the explanation of the complex structures observed in certain lobes of AGNs which have since perplexed many scientists.
