We report the detection of CO emission from Dwingeloo 1, a nearby barred spiral galaxy discovered recently by Kraan-Korteweg et al. (1994) behind the Milky Way. The CO integrated intensity within the central ~55" is only 1.6 K[T_R_*]km/s, corresponding to an H_2_ mass of 5.5x10^6^D/3Mpc)^2^Msun_ if the Galactic N(H_2_)/I_CO_ conversion factor of 3x10^20^cm^-2^(K.km/s)^-1^ is assumed. The weak CO emission relative to its HI emission could be due to a central molecular hole, an unusual N(H_2_)/I_CO_ conversion factor, or a truly anomalous molecular-to-atomic gas mass ratio in the galaxy.
