Observations of the fields surrounding the quasars 3C 275.1 and 3C 270.1, which are characterized by tail-like distortions in their radio structure, are presented which have resulted in the detection of a cluster of galaxies associated with 3C 275.1. Deep direct observations of the fields were obtained with the Kitt Peak 4-m telescope in the R bandpass down to a limiting magnitude of about 23.5. The lower-redshift quasar, 3C 275.1 (z = 0.557), is found to be surrounded by 32 faint objects, compared with eight expected background objects. The quasar itself is observed to be located in a faint, elliptical nebulosity interpreted as a giant elliptical galaxy. No statistical evidence of a cluster associated with the higher-redshift quasar 3C 270.1 (z = 1.519) is obtained, consistent with the cosmological interpretation of quasar redshifts.
