The absorption spectrum of the quasar OQ 172 is searched for redshift systems supported solely or mainly by hydrogen lines. One such system is found at z = 3.3528. It comprises nine lines, of which five are the first five members of the Lyman series and have oscillator strengths of decreasing order. The identification of the other four lines is doubtful, for reasons that are given. The five hydrogen lines are used in a statistical test for the reliability of the identification of the redshift system, resulting in a rejection of the null hypothesis. The system's average SNR is about 3.5, its Doppler width is 55 km/s, and its hydrogen column density is 14.66. It is concluded that the object under investigation is a hydrogen cloud in quasar-intergalactic space about one-tenth the age of the universe.
