Four high velocity southern stars and one Population I giant are analyzed in detail, using model atmospheres. In spite of their kinematical properties typical of Population II, the four high velocity stars are found moderately metal-deficient. Sodium is found overabundant in the Population I giant. The overabundance of magnesium in HD 41312 is discussed in terms of the nucleosynthesis theory of Arnett.
