An important requirement for the VLT Laser Guide Star Facility is the
ability to measure the centroid height of the atmospheric sodium layer,
located at an altitude of about 90km, to an accuracy of 200m. In this
paper, we describe the sodium profiler system designed to achieve this
and the expected performance.
