The Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie and Steward Observatory are jointly planning the establishment of a submillimeter observatory on Mount Lemmon, Arizona. The telescope will have a diameter of 10 meter and enable diffraction-limited operation at a shortest wavelength of 350 μm. Thus the reflector surface accuracy will be about 15 μm and the pointing accuracy 1arcsec. This paper describes the design of the telescope.
