The project encompassed the conception, construction, and testing of an SP-100 like design for the separation of gas-liquid phases in a microgravity environment. The system was successful in obtaining a stable column of air within a circulating liquid water volume in a fixed cylinder; however, some difficulties were noted. Air bubbles did not readily coalesce with the main vapor column within the short microgravity period established inside the KC-135A. Potential mechanisms to eliminate this problem in subsequent tests are described.
