The applicability of the existing design codes to the fabrication and erection of structures on the moon is discussed. It is shown, in particular, that the specifications of such codes as those of the American Institute for Steel Construction and the American Concrete Institute will not be applicable to lunar construction. While some earth construction experience will be useful, construction in a low-g microdust vacuum requires almost completely new procedures. The development of a steel-frame-based lunar outpost is considered as an example.
