Quasars: Lyman-Alpha Forest, Cosmological Models: Lyman-Alpha Forest

The spectra of quasars show many absorption lines of hydrogen. The strongest is the ultraviolet Lyman-α (Lyα) line. Because a large number of such lines is observed usually in a spectrum, it is called the Lyα-forest. In this article an interpretation of the Lyα-forest is given which allows very extensive cosmological statements.
