The comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 entering the Jovian atmosphere was suffered ablation and dissociation as a result of interaction with the atmosphere. The masses and densities of the comet fragments have been taken as 1012, 1013 and 1014kg, and 3.0, 1.0, 0.8, 0.5 and 0.2 g/cm3, respectively. The authors' results show that these fragments passed through the ammonia cloud layer and exploded near the 1 bar level.
