The physicomechanical properties of the lunar regolith in the region of Lunokhod-2 operations are investigated in relation to local and regional terrain characteristics. It is shown that these properties depend on the steepness of slopes, the duration of soil exposure on the dayside surface, and regional terrain features which control the rate, trend, and relative role of geomorphological processes. The results confirm data of qualitative geomorphological analysis which indicate that the development of a thermal-creep slope process is widespread on the moon, and that this process plays a major role in the formation of regolith features and in terrain evolution.
