An analytical formula is obtained which relates the volume intensity (eta) of the 337.1 nm emission and the N2(+) ion production rate in the upper atmosphere under the effect of solar short-wavelength radiation at wavelengths less than 66.1 nm. The relationship obtained makes it possible to describe the morphological features of the 337.1 nm emission behavior. It is shown that eta is directly proportional to the extraatmospheric solar short-wavelength radiation flux at wavelengths less than 66.1 nm.
