It is shown that the baryon asymmetry of the universe created in the beginning of the hadronic era can be changed by the subsequent evolution. The change depends on the equation of state and makes it possible to reconcile the observed baryon asymmetry with the predictions of grand unified theories. The behavior of the baryon asymmetry is investigated for the case when phase transitions occur in the matter of the early universe.
