A comparison is presented of data obtained by Cosmos 224 and AE-C on concentrations of nitric oxide in periods of medium and low solar activity. Consideration is given to steady state photochemistry and diffusion involving NO, N(4S), and N(2D). Calculated results are found to agree well with experimental data. The diurnal variations of these thermospheric constituents are examined and they are studied in relation to solar activity.
