Spiral density waves in a rotating self-gravitating gas disk embedded in
a spheroidal gravitating stellar system are examined. The stellar
spheroid is found to exert a stabilizing effect on spiral perturbations
to the gas disk. The secular stability of the flat subsystem in galaxies
is briefly considered.
