The differences and relative merits of the two analyses by Arp (1981) and Brown (1982) are discussed, and a third quite different approach to the analysis is presented which gives an independent estimate of the significance of the association. The density of quasars within R = 8-17 kpc of companion galaxies is shown to be 10-30 times the currently accepted background density. It is noted that the search for quasars around companions is by no means complete at this point, particularly to the faintest apparent magnitudes. The analysis presented here only compares the densest region of quasar associations around companions (R = 8-17 kpc) with the background. It omits considerations of associations at larger and smaller distances.
