Bonnor (1987) used the model proposed by Einstein and Strauss (1945, 1946) to represent a cluster of galaxies immersed in the standard cosmological model with vanishing pressure. Bonnor's result implied a model where the local average energy density would not be the same as that of the global average density of the universe. Problems raised by this result are analyzed, and it is demonstrated that the mean density of a local spherical inhomogeneity on a Robertson-Walker universe has to be equal to the cosmological energy density.
