We have presented a survey of laser plasma interaction experiments currently in progress at the Laboratory for Laser Energetics at the University of Rochester. Although our survey of this field is rather incomplete, it is hoped that this brief summary of capabilities will stimulate interaction investigations into high energy density interaction experiments made possible by the presently available high power lasers. In particular, it now appears possible to perform laboratory experiments which may properly be termed 'laboratory astrophysics'. It is anticipated that such experiments will amplify present astrophysical research related to dense matter by affording direct experimental measurement of important quantities, such as transport coefficients, previously available only from theoretical calculations.
