The USAF Weapons Laboratory's 'Phasar' experiment has successfully demonstrated the active phase-matching, coalignment, and agile steering of several mutually-coherent optical wavefronts through an array of three independently-transmitting optical telescopes, even in the presence of dynamic disturbances. Mutually-coherent wavefronts transmitted through the array are controlled in order to yield an effectively single-aperture wavefront; a far-field energy distribution is generated that is equivalent to the diffraction pattern of a single aperture, whose diameter and obscurations match the transmitting array's geometry.
