We present the results of a deep broad-band imaging survey of a sample of early-type galaxies with known stellar shells. Deep BVR images of these galaxy shells have been obtained in order to measure their broad-band optical colors. In addition, deep V and R images of a corresponding sample of HI-selected "normal" ellipticals have been obtained, to see if they have previously undetected shells. The majority of the non-shell galaxies is found to be truly shell-less. A preliminary reduction of the shell sample shows that most of the shells have colors that are similar to the elliptical.
