The R Coronae Borealis (RCB) stars are a class of some 30 irregular variables, which experience large and rapid declines in light. They are supergiants and many are known to be pulsating variables. The frequency and depth of minima vary from star to star but a few magnitudes of extinction every few years is typical. Here the authors describe some preliminary results on the modelling of the deep minima of RCB stars, incorporating grain growth and the effects of radiation pressure.
