Recent counts of faint galaxies are reviewed and intercompared.
Applications to cosmology, the evolution of galaxies, and the
distribution of luminous matter are discussed. The interpretation of the
data requires a detailed understanding of the properties of faint galaxy
images and the methods used to measure these images.
