This study investigates the properties of the galaxy NGC 5701, a (R)SB(rs)0/a classified galaxy located in the Virgo Supercluster at α=143911.0, δ=052149. We analyzed HI emission data collected by the Arecibo Legacy Fast ALFA survey at the Arecibo Radio Observatory during February and March 2006. This survey provides new, more sensitive data for extragalactic HI emitting sources than previously available. These preliminary data allowed the construction of a detailed map of the anomalously large HI disk that surrounds NGC 5701. In previous studies, HI was detected to extend out to a radius of 8’ by Kornreich et al. using VLA data obtained by S. E. Schneider as well as out to a radius of 10’ by Duprie and Schneider with the Arecibo 21 cm flat feed. These HI disk radii extend approximately five times the optical radius R25 beyond the optical disk. Our more sensitive mapping lends to further study into the rotational dynamics, mass distribution, and morphology of the galaxy and its unusually large HI disk.
