We propose to image three low-luminosity early-type galaxies (ETGs) with a kinematically decoupled core (KDC), namely NGC 2434, NGC 7192 and IC 4889. We will image the three galaxies with WFPC2 in the three passbands F450W, F555W and F814W, centered at 4445 Angstrom, 5252 Angstrom, and 8269 Angstrom, respectively. These multi-band exposures will be used to derive optical-optical twodimensional color maps. We intend to investigate: 1) the presence of unresolved point--like sources in these cores, and their colors; 2) the global morphology of these anomalous stellar cores; 3) the relationship between their morphology and the morphology of the dust - if any; 4) any positional dependence of the stellar population properties; 5) the spectral energy distribution (SED) of the stellar population in these cores. Our final aim is to compare the results we will obtain for the KDCs in low-luminosity ETGs with those already found by HST for i) low-luminosity ETGs with ``regular'' core kinematics; ii) high-luminosity ellipticals with KDCs. Anomalies - or similarities - of our targets with respect to the comparison galaxies will provide important insight into the processes of galaxy formation and evolution.
