The authors present a reliable method, based on the use of a priori information and on Tikhonov's regularization of unstable inverse problems, for the deconvolution of quasar and distant galactic nuclei from point spread function. The application to four quasars: 3C273, PKS2135+147, 3C206, and PKS0812+020, chosen as representative members of the low red-shift quasar sample of Wyckoff et al., 1981, shows that the deconvolved photometric structure of the region surrounding the central point-like source is very similar, if suitably corrected, to that of a set of well studied gE and cD galaxies.
