Two epochs of HALCA and VLBA observations of compact radio source PKS 1413+135 are presented. We have resolved the compact jet into a series of components. Comparing the two epochs of images at 4.97 GHz, our interpretation of the data indicates the inner components are moving at higher velocities than the outer components. The radio source 1413+135 is also remarkable for a number of other reasons; 1) it is 18 times more variable at 8 GHz cm wavelengths than at 2.3 GHz, 2) it is one of the few ( ~ 4) sources where radio absorption lines of HI, CO, HCN and other molecules (Wiklind and Combes 1994 A&A 286:L9) have been detected, and 3) it appears to be a young radio source (< 104 years, Perlman et al. 1996, A. J. 111:1839.), which has not yet produced kilo parsec scale radio lobes. We interpret the data in terms of two models, 1) where the jet is decelerated by interaction with the medium surrounding the quasar core and 2) where the jet is oriented along the line of sight near the core, but bends away from the line of sight at a distance 10 milli-arcseconds from the core (24 parsecs at z=0.247).
