After the establishment of ``NASDA-STD-18 Space Debris Mitigation Standard'' (1996a), the following improvements and new actions are being promoted or completed. (1) A set of engineering guidebooks was established in March 1998; (2) An action has been initiated to define the allowable reentry casualty area caused by reentering debris and develop the required analysis tools; (3) NASDA Debris Database is being developed and some functions are being prepared for trial use; (4) Ground observation system construction programs have been initiated in Japan. NASDA joins those programs with sending engineers and providing interface with NASDA Debris Database. This paper introduces these activities with putting emphasis particularly on (1) and (2).
