It is suggested that the discovery of black hole candidates in nearby galaxies can shed light on the 'demography' of quasar and AGN populations, as well as garner observational test-cases for Einstein's theory of the strong-field regime which will settle whether or not space-time around such objects obeys the metrics of Schwartzschild and of Kerr. These 'dead quasars' in nearby AGNs, some of which may be as large as the entire solar system, will be subject to study without the complexities of high-density physics or high opacities.
