The helium 584-A dayglow was observed by a helium gas-absorption cell. The method of helium pressure modulation in the cell is used to demonstrate that the emission from directions within 20 deg of the sun in the bandwidth from 500 to 800 A at heights above 400 km is due entirely to helium 584-A resonance radiation, since complete absorption of the signal was reached at filling pressures of 6 torr. The existence of other pressure-modulated radiation below 504 A within the bandwidth of the cell is implausible. Upper limits for the geocoronal and interplanetary intensities ranging from 60 to 100 R and 7 to 10 R, respectively, were obtained.
