Frequencies of superimposed craters were measured on the floors or ejecta blankets of 21 Eratosthenian and Copernican host craters. Relative ages were derived from these data and compared with the geologic-morphologic Eratosthenian-Copernican classification. For limited size intervals of the host craters, the apparent age resulting from the crater frequency measurements is in accordance with the geologic classification. In terms of absolute time, however, the geologic crater classification tends to assign progressively younger stratigraphic ages to larger and larger craters. The frequencies of superimposed craters measured on the craters Tycho and Copernicus are especially discussed in relation to their possible radiometric ages of approximately 100 and 850 m.y., respectively, and in relation to the central cluster secondaries at the Apollo 17 landing site. It is found that these relationships do not yet allow a final determination of the impact rate in the last 850 m.y.
