A model is presented in an effort to reproduce the cyclotron spectrum of accretion columns in AM Herculis systems. It is shown, in particular, that an accretion column which is highly inhomogeneous in density, such as that proposed by Wu and Chanmugam (1988), is not necessary to reproduce the detailed spectrum of STLMi. A simple dipole magnetic field model of an accretion column in free fall of height 0.1 R(wd) with a temperature of 5.5 keV/k(B) or less can explain equally well the STLMi spectrum.
