Lines have been observed in the spectra of some gamma ray bursts. These
can be interpreted as cyclotron lines, and in one case as first and
second harmonics. This suggests the origin of gamma bursts near the
poles of a sporadically accreting neutron star with a super-strong
magnetic field, in a binary system.
