HC5N and HC7N have been detected at 10 GHz in absorption by interstellar clouds in the Orion arm against the strong continuum source Cas A. The velocity components generally correspond to those found for atomic hydrogen and light molecules. The inferred total column densitites are 2 x 10 to the 11th per sq cm for HC5N and about 1 x 10 to the 11th per sq cm for HC7N. These column densities are unexpectedly high relative to HCN if these molecules occur in diffuse cloud material.
