The current NEO surveys are closing in on the goal of identifying 90% of the >1 km NEOs, but at the current discovery rate, it may require another few years beyond the nominal target date of the end of 2008 to achieve (e.g., Harris, this meeting). We will discuss several of the more successful aspects of the current surveys in the context of the next generation of deeper, more extensive surveys that will be coming online. For example, we find that near real-time detection and reporting of NEO candidates enable the critical follow-up needed for early identification of potentially hazardous objects.
