A study to find a hydrothermal method for growing berlinite crystals of sufficently large sizes to use as piezoelectric materials is presented. Natural berlinite of large size are not known. Studies of the optimal conditions of growth were performed using extension of different techniques previously applied particularly to quartz crystals. Two growth techniques obtained large crystals of good quality. The first starts by joining several crystals of the same orientation to make a single seed. If this is not sufficient, a second 'crossed growth' technique can be used. To control the quality of the obtained crystals, x ray topographic studies were done and typical features of the samples are presented.
