Helium atom excitation by electron impact was studied in detail. In the spectral region 260 - 800 nm the cross sections of 73 transitions of He I, belonging to the six main spectral series of the helium atom, were measured. Varying the electron energy from the threshold up to 250 eV the energy dependences for all the cross sections were measured. The character of variation of the values of the excitation cross sections depending on the quantum number of the upper level, following a power law, is discussed.
