The theory of gamma-ray amplification through stimulated annihilation radiation (grasar) was developed by Ramaty, McKinley and Jones. For gamma-ray bursts similar to the March 5, 1979 burst, an observed annihilation line of width <0.03 MeV would imply a grasar source. The minimum pair density needed for the onset of grasar action is ≡1030 cm-3 and the peak of the grasar line, without a gravitational redshift, is below 0.5 MeV.
