A software utility package, VISKY (VIsibility of SKY), has been developed for computing and visualizing the parts of the sky covered by an on-board instrument (telescope) during an astronomical space mission. The approach used in this program is based on the invariability of orbital accessibility, in the orbital frame, during the mission. When compared with the step-by-step method, this approach is shown to reduce the computation effort. The VISKY software makes it possible to evaluate the feasibility of a particular mission and provides elements for selecting the most convenient orbit.
