We performed an experiment using the Coulomb-dissociation method to study the ^22Mg(p,γ)^23Al reaction rate, which has an effect on the nucleosynthesis of ^22Na in Ne-rich novae. Since the first excited state in ^23Al, lying just above the proton separation energy, locates near the Gamow energy for the novae, it could have a considerable contribution to the reaction rate. We aimed at measuring the transition probability to the first excited state of ^23Al. The radioactive beam of ^23Al at 50 AMeV was produced at RIPS in RIKEN, and bombarded a ^208Pb target. The products of the breakup reaction, ^22Mg and a proton, were detected, respectively, by a silicon telescope and a plastic scintillator hodoscope located 56 cm and 4 m downstream of the target.
