Scientific paper
Results from optical identifications of 2-10 keV hard X-ray surveys with the ASCA satellite are reviewed along with results from the Chandra and the XMM-Newton deep surveys. More than 100 Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) have been found with ASCA. The number density of obscured type-2 QSOs is not so large as expected from the type-2 to type-1 Seyfert galaxy number ratio. The result suggests that the fraction of absorbed AGNs decreases with increasing luminosity. It may reflect the fact that structure of absorbing matter around QSO nuclei is different from that of Seyfert galaxies.
