Cosmic Rays: Earth Atmosphere
Scientific paper
The closeness to unity of the probability of the inversion of the total electric current generated by primary relativistic protons and other hadrons of cosmic rays (CR) from positive, at the entrance to the atmosphere, to negative, at the Earth's surface, is shown. The inversion results from the fact that the penetration length of shower electrons whose velocity directions are close to the direction of the primary CR flow exceeds the length of the secondary positive ion paths by over an order of magnitude.
