A comparison between mercury content in meteorites and their terrestrial age reveal a positive correlation between these parameters. Measurements of mercury content in earth rock powders indicate that an increase in mercury content during storage on earth is due to the sorption of atmospheric mercury vapors. The relationship between increase in mercury content and storage time is used to determine the mercury content in chondrites of the C, L, and H groups at the moment they fall on the earth. The abundance of mercury atoms in outer space is calculated to be 0.72 (for N(Si) = 1000,000 atoms).
