The discovery of a high-energy gamma-ray source is reported, and reasons for its identification with 3C 273 are presented. If this identification is correct, the gamma-ray luminosity of 3C 273 in the energy range 50-500 MeV is 2 times 10 to the 46th power erg/s for H equals 60 km/(sec Mpc). The cross-correlation method used to analyze the data involves correlation of the frequency distribution of arrival directions of gamma rays with the distribution expected for a point source. A major portion of the energy radiated by 3C 273 is found to be in the form of gamma rays.
