The Comet Halley outer coma's 0.03-25 Hz low-sensitivity electric field waveforms are presently studied, in conjunction with simultaneous observations of dust particle mass spectra, in order to ascertain effective regions for the generation of impulses in various amplitude ranges by particle impacts from particular mass channels. The areas for production of positive impulses by particles of mass magnitudes of orders 10 to the -17th to the -16th, 10 to the -16th to the -15th, and 10 to the -15th to the -14th g, were respectively equal to about 2.5, 6.3, and 4.0 units of the SP-1 sensor's 81 sq cm area. An adequate correspondence is obtained between experimental results and interpretation if the impact ionization yield is rather high, while the dust-induced plasma's expansion velocity is several times smaller than appears in the extant literature.
